ET go home at the Heritage Station Hotel (aka Heritage Hotel)
Posted by kckong under: Beautiful light; Children; Portrait photography; Black & White; People; Abstracts.
I was scouting the Heritage Station Hotel for Sam & Angeline’s pre-wedding shoot last Saturday and I met some wonderful people there.
There was Anna from Sabah who was not feeling well but I think I managed to brighten up her day. Then there was Dominic from Cairns who’s been to KL almost annually for the past 10 years.
And then there was Madoka and her daughter Haruka from Japan. Madoka loves photography but prefers to be behind the lens. That’s why I had Dom stand in in this shot which I absolutely adore. When I showed this to Dom, it was he who said, “Hey, that’s like a scene from ET!” And that’s how the title of this post came to be.
Of course there was Lloyd and Izlan and Harold whom I didn’t manage to snap. Maybe next time…

Dear KC, Truly magicised a moment in time… Ahh!! the magic of a pointed lens to humans. Ask then to smile and they do. But many forget that the quality of the smile to the lensman, yourself in this case, is a reflection of the rapport, respect and interaction you created. The photos are beautiful. A mark of the quality of your skill. I salute you sir and will be posting you magic to all FB buddies. As a busy doctor in Singapore, you have brightened up my day/night. Terima Kasih…

Thank you Jason … you’re too kind
But you have it spot on. Our job is not just a technical one of ensuring appropriate exposure or focal length. There’s the all-important soft side … the human side of establishing rapport and faith and drawing out the personality of the subject. Not easy ![]()
