Mid-week retro: Fireworks at Putrajaya … Australia’s tiara

This week’s retro is a fireworks image shot at last year’s Malaysian International Fireworks Festival in Putrajaya. The first performance I attended was Team Australia’s. They were represented by Howard and Sons, the same pyrotechnicians that had done the marathon fireworks display at the Eye On Malaysia in early 2007.
The beauty about fireworks phototography is that it is akin to painting … except that the paint is beyond our control. We don’t hold the brush or the paint squirter … instead we hold and control the canvas ie the film or sensor in our camera. By controlling how much light we allow in through the camera’s eye, we are able to compose an image to our liking.
